In a light packaging sorting plant, packaging waste is sorted appropriately into valuable recyclable material fractions. Besides the various existing sorting techniques in such facilities, the Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is also implemented. The types of plastic that are sorted include polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and PET. Special machines also ensure that beverage cartons, PET trays and HDPE packaging are separated in the post-sorting of the material. Sorted materials are pressed into bales so that they are transported efficiently. Sorting by type is the basis for effective recycling.
