Export of print file

Done with the creation of your design? Great, then you're almost done! Now you just have to export your file in the right format.

Export print file (Adobe Illustrator)

To export your final design in Adobe Illustrator, proceed as follows:

Go to File → Save As in the main menu.

You can save the file locally on your computer or in the Adobe cloud. Then select Adobe PDF as file type and name the file using a descriptive name. The name should also include the packaging form (flat bottom pouch, stand-up pouch or flat pouch) and the material (Martha, Toni, Robin or Ben) you have chosen. Then click on Save.

In the pop-up window that now opens, select the ‘Illustrator Standard’ setting under Adobe PDF preset. Then you can be sure that all further settings are correct and you don't have to select anything else.

What do I need to consider when saving and exporting my print file?

As soon as your design is complete, you can save it by going to the menu and selecting ‘File’ and ‘Save as’. Then select the ‘Adobe PDF’ format. A pop-up window will open. Select the ‘Illustrator Standard’ setting as Adobe PDF default.

Go to File → Adobe PDF Presets → PDF/X-4:2008

In InDesign, you also need to make the following settings, otherwise the layers we have specified will be lost and errors will occur during printing:

  • Options → Create Acrobat Layer

  • Export Layers: All Layers

Note: When you use our print templates in InDesign, it is important that the layers and colours are named exactly as in our templates.

Also, under ‘Bleed and Trim’, select the document's bleed settings for the trim allowance.

When saving your print file in InDesign, make sure to give your file a meaningful name. The chosen packaging form (flat bottom pouch, stand-up pouch or flat pouch) and the material (Martha, Toni, Robin or Ben) should also appear in the name.

All done?

  1. Have you selected Adobe PDF as file type?

  2. Has the ‘Illustrator Standard’ setting been selected?

  3. Has your file been given a descriptive name that includes the type of packaging and its material?
