A ‘Zipper’ is a pressure seal. It is pretty similar to a zip fastener. Zippers have interlocking rails on each side. When you press these together with your fingers, you close the Zip. In the packaging world, zip-lock pouches are the standard addition to flexible packaging, designed to protect your product in the best possible way and preserve its quality.
The most important function of the Zipper: after opening your packaging for the first time, it can be sealed airtight again. This ensures that your product does not leak and remains stable inside the pouch.
Most zip fasteners are made of plastic. At Packiro, we use polypropylene (PP), a high-quality plastic made from propylene and ethylene, for the zips on our ‘Metallised Martha’ and ‘Transparent Toni’ packaging materials. For the ‘Robust Robin’ and ‘Biobased Ben’ materials, we use LDPE zips made from soft polyethylene.
The so-called ‘Pocket Zipper’ is also a type of pressure closure, but it is designed to ensure an even easier filling of the packaging. The special feature of the Pocket Zipper is that it is only located on the front of your packaging. Thanks to this, your product contents do not get caught on the rails of the zipper during the filling process, as the packaging can be opened further (see below).
Packaging with pocket zippers allows for semi-automatic and fully automatic filling processes and is a practical solution for many industries. However, we particularly recommend this add-on for your coffee packaging.
Pocket zippers are only available in our shop for flat bottom pouches.
Just like the standard zippers, our pocket zippers are made of plastic. If you opt for the ‘Metallised Martha’ and ‘Transparent Toni’ packaging materials, you can add a polypropylene (PP) pocket zipper to your flat bottom pouch. A pocket zip made of LDPE is available for the ‘Robust Robin’ and ‘Bio-based Ben’ materials.
Your choice of zipper will depend on which type of packaging form is right for your product. For example, if you are selling CBD flowers or chewing gum, flat pouches are the ideal choice - you can add a Zipper as an option.
However, if your product is freeze-dried fruit, sweets or tea, stand-up pouches with a Zipper as an add-on probably make the most sense for you.
Flat bottom pouches are the industry standard for coffee. At Packiro, you can get your flat bottom pouches with an integrated Pocket Zipper at no extra charge.
