Landfilling

Besides waste incineration, ocean dumping and recycling, waste is also landfilled. In landfills, waste is deposited on a dump site on a long-term basis or, in few cases, it is also disposed of in a storage facility.

The reason why waste is stored in a technical landfill facility and not in nature is that it causes less damage to nature this way. There are different landfill classes and corresponding properties that the waste must have. If the requirements prioir to landfilling are not met, the waste must be pre-treated.
