Tracer-Based-Sorting (TBS)

Since a recycling rate of 63 percent will be required for plastic packaging in Germany in the future, new technical processes for waste separation are in great demand. For example, a modern option for sorting waste is Tracer-Based-Sorting (TBS). In this model, the type of packaging is determined by the so-called fluorescence of the tracer. This works because the fluorescence is activated when the tracer is excited by electromagnetic radiation. A concrete application example of a TBS is the accurate separation of multilayer packaging to avoid interference with the mono-material streams.
