Offset printing

In offset printing, the print is not transferred directly from the printing plate to the material to be printed (e.g. paper), but indirectly via a roller. It is therefore classified as an indirect printing process. Today, offset printing accounts for more than 70% of the world's printing volume. The term is easy to remember because "offset" or "set off" means nothing other than "setting down", i.e. transferring the ink from the printing forme (printing plate) to a printing blanket (rubber blanket) and from there to the surface of the substrate (paper).
