<p>Energy recovery of waste is used when it cannot be <a href="/en/glossary/recycling">recycled</a>. Waste with a high calorific value is incinerated and then used as a substitute fuel (RDF) for fossil fuels such as coal or oil, e.g. in cement plants.</p>
