What is the PPWR and who does it apply to?
The PPWR (Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation) is a new, binding EU regulation that will apply from 12 August 2026. The aim is to reduce packaging waste by 15% by 2040 compared to 2018. The PPWR replaces previous directives and leaves little room for national interpretation. It is part of the EU Green Deal and is intended to contribute to climate neutrality by 2050. It affects all companies that manufacture or distribute packaging in the EU, whether they are start-ups or large corporations.
